Dr. Caitlin Wise is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry. She attended Bowling Green State University for her undergraduate degree where she graduated with University and Biology departmental honors. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society, Mortar Board National College Senior Honors Society, and Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society.
While at Ohio State, Dr. Wise was an active member of Epsilon Psi Epsilon, a service fraternity that focuses on providing free eye care to those who cannot afford it and works closely with Pilot Eye Dogs, a company that provides guide dogs to patients in need.
During her final year at Ohio State, Dr. Wise completed a rotation at the Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina where she received training in detecting and treating glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other ocular diseases. She also worked as an intern at several optometric practices in Ohio, gaining experience and training in contact lenses, pediatric examinations, and pre/post-operative treatment.
Dr. Wise is a northeast Ohio native, as she grew up in Wadsworth and now resides in Coventry. She enjoys Saturdays in the fall (O-H!) and in her spare time she enjoys traveling, boxing, and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Wise can be seen in Green on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and one Saturday a month. She can be seen in Fairlawn on Wednesdays.
Dr. Ronald Nelson is a 1973 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry. After graduation he became a commissioned officer in the United States Navy until his retirement in 1994. He has been in private practice since that time.
Dr. Nelson is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association. Dr. Nelson enjoys following the Buckeyes and spending time with family.
Dr. Nelson is in Green on Wednesdays, and in Fairlawn on Saturdays.
Dr. Thomas Handel graduated with honors from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1987 at the age of 23. He was one of the youngest to graduate from the college.
After graduation he returned to Northeast Ohio. Dr. Handel purchased Arlington Eye Care in 1991. The growth of Arlington Eye Care led Dr. Handel to open The Handel Vision Clinic in Fairlawn.
Professionally, Dr. Handel prides himself on keeping up with technology that will enhance the eye exam experience for the patients and help the doctors evaluate your eyes accurately. He is a member of the Optometric Honor Society Beta Sigma Kappa, the American Optometric Association and the Ohio Optometric Association, and the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control.
In addition to being an avid Buckeyes fan, Dr. Handel keeps busy by spending time with his wife, Krista and their 4 children. Every year Dr. Handel raises money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society by participating in the Buckeye Breakaway, a 150 mile bike ride.
Dr. Handel will be in Green on Mondays and Thursdays, and in Fairlawn on Tuesdays, and Friday mornings. He will be in Newton Falls on Wednesday.
Dr. Ben Doering is a member of the recent graduating Class of 2017 from The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He went to Washington High School in Massillon, OH and was a member of the football team. He then attended the University of Akron for 3 years with a biochemistry major. His optometric interests include; sports vision, specialty contact lens fitting, and binocular vision/pediatrics. While at Ohio State he had special training in vision therapy and had experience working with traumatic brain injury patients.
You can find Dr. Ben doing various extreme adventures if he isn’t in clinic. He enjoys things like skiing, rock climbing, sailing, longboarding, fishing, drone flying, video editing, camping, running, basketball, cycling, soccer, and golf. Music is one of his passions, he plays guitar and sings in The Band Keratopathy(an all optometrist band) and is in a German American singing group in Canton. Ben also sings in his church choir and is an organist. He has a German Shepherd named Nina.
Dr. Doering can be seen in Green on Mondays, Tuesdays, and 3 Saturdays a month. He can be seen in Fairlawn on Fridays.
Dr. Ronald Wallie is a native Ohioan. He graduated with honors from Kent State University in 1969 with a BA in mathematics. He was involved in missionary work with college students on college campuses in the Portland, Oregon area and later, the University of Cincinnati from 1969 to 1977.
Dr. Wallie became a college student again and earned the Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1981. He assisted doctors in their optometric practices until he opened his own practice in 2002 in Newton Falls, Ohio.
His wife, Carolyn, and their nine children spend time together hiking, running, biking, and daily Bible studies. Their home in the country is not far from Newton Falls and enables these children to enjoy many outdoor activities, including hunting and gardening.
